Steam turbines FAQs

Steam turbines offer several key advantages in power generation, making them a reliable and efficient choice for large-scale energy production. They are capable of producing high power output with excellent thermal efficiency, especially in combined heat and power (CHP) systems. Steam turbines also have a long operational lifespan, low maintenance requirements, and can be integrated with a wide range of fuels – including fossil fuels, biomass, and nuclear energy. Additionally, they provide stable and continuous energy output, which is essential for baseload power generation in modern energy grids.
A steam turbine is a mechanical device that converts thermal energy from pressurized steam into mechanical rotational energy, which is then used to generate electricity or drive industrial machinery. In a typical steam turbine system, high-pressure steam produced in a boiler flows over a series of blades mounted on a rotor. As the steam expands and loses pressure, it causes the rotor to spin. This rotational energy can then be connected to a generator or other equipment. Steam turbines are widely used in power plants, refineries, and manufacturing facilities due to their high efficiency and ability to produce large amounts of continuous power.
